With her first solo exhibition slated for September 9th, at the charming Tramways Building in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Karin, the creative founder of the thriving local design firm Truly Karin, is ready to leave a lasting impression.
"I've had the honor of participating in a few fashion shows alongside fellow designers, but this is an entirely new chapter for me as I take center stage with my very own production," expresses the effervescent Karin Roman.
The roots of Truly Karin trace back to the rich tapestry of Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, where Karin, driven by her passion for fashion, embarked on her creative journey. Initially, fashion was a delightful hobby she pursued by enrolling in sewing classes. Little did she know that this hobby would transform into her life's calling. "Discovering my innate talent and boundless passion for fashion was a pivotal moment for me. The sewing classes opened a gateway to an unexplored world of design and creativity," Karin reminisces.
Truly Karin officially sprouted its wings in 2019, and by 2020, Karin decided to dive headfirst into her venture after a corporate retrenchment pushed her to take a leap of faith. With unwavering dedication and hard work, her brand rapidly flourished, setting the stage for her current daring endeavor: hosting her own fashion show.
Guided by the comedic finesse of local luminary Francois Scholtz as the host, the Truly Karin Fashion Show promises to be an evening of elegance, glamour, and floral enchantment. The event, divided into three enthralling segments, is set to transpire within the resplendent Tramways Building.
"The first segment serves as a homage to the evolution of Truly Karin. It showcases a reimagining of my designs spanning back to 2018, all beautifully recreated in bespoke Truly Karin fabrics. The subsequent segments are equally enthralling, featuring the radiant matric farewell collection and bespoke pieces commissioned by my cherished clients. The pinnacle of the show culminates in the unveiling of my much-anticipated spring/summer collection," Karin elaborates with excitement.
Sneak peeks into the collection reveal an opulent array of vibrant hues, intricate floral motifs, and verdant foliage. The collection mirrors the essence of spring, heralding new beginnings and the metamorphosis of both the brand and its creator. "Spring symbolizes a fresh dawn, a promising inception, and this collection is a testament to my journey's blooming. Just as flowers burst into radiant life in September, I too am stepping out of my comfort zone and allowing myself to flourish," confides the self-proclaimed introvert with a triumphant smile.
While Karin is poised to shine as the star of her own show, she humbly acknowledges the support of her ever-present friends and family. Close childhood confidante Hillary has been an unwavering pillar of assistance in the show's intricate planning. Furthermore, the guidance of fellow designer Braemore Lundall-Sauls of Braemore Design has been instrumental in navigating the nuances of the industry. "Braemore's experience has been an invaluable compass, guiding me through challenges and uncertainties. His insights have been a cornerstone of my growth," Karin acknowledges.

While dreams of brick-and-mortar boutiques on the local and national fronts shimmer on the horizon, her current focus remains steadfastly on the Truly Karin Fashion Show.
