After completing her matriculation in 2010, Precious pursued Information Technology at Ekurhuleni West College. Despite a promising start in IT, she felt an undeniable pull towards the world of jewellery. In 2015, she enrolled in a learnership program to explore this newfound passion. "My passion ignited as I honed my skills, and by 2017, I had established my own jewellery business while continuing my training at the Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project," Precious recalls. This step marked the beginning of Chiedza Jewellery, a brand that would soon captivate the public with its exquisite designs.
The initial years were not without challenges. Starting a business in a highly competitive industry required not only skill but also a deep understanding of market dynamics and customer preferences. Precious faced numerous hurdles, from sourcing quality materials to establishing a reliable customer base. However, her determination never wavered. "The workshop is my sanctuary, where the thrill of crafting each unique piece fuels my enthusiasm," she says. This passion for her craft kept her going even when times were tough.
Her hard work began to pay off in 2019 when she earned her Jewellery Certificate, marking the official launch of her entrepreneurial journey. The public reception to Chiedza Jewellery was overwhelmingly positive. Customers were drawn to the unique designs and the quality of the products, which stood out in a crowded market. The Chiedza collection, featuring earrings and rings crafted from brass and silver, quickly became best-sellers, consistently generating strong sales and attracting orders at every market or show.
One of the most significant milestones for Precious came in 2021 when she won third place in the Rand Refinery Entrepreneur Development Program. This accolade not only recognized her innovation and hard work but also opened new doors for her business. The following year, she had the prestigious opportunity to attend the Mining Indaba, the premier event in the mining industry. This experience was invaluable, providing her with insights and connections that would help her scale her business.
Despite the successes, Precious continues to face the daily challenges of running a business. However, she finds solace in her work and the support of her family. "What makes me go to sleep peacefully after a day full of business activities is knowing that I am making progress and that my family stands by me," she shares. Her involvement in every aspect of the business, from design to manufacturing and repairs, ensures that each piece of jewellery meets her high standards of quality and craftsmanship.
Looking ahead, Precious has ambitious plans for Chiedza Jewellery. She envisions developing, producing, and globally distributing original, high-quality jewellery and accessories. Scaling up means expanding her market reach and enhancing production capabilities without compromising on the uniqueness and quality that her brand is known for. "My ultimate vision is ambitious and clear: to develop, produce, and globally distribute original, high-quality jewellery and accessories," she states with determination.
When not immersed in her business, Precious finds relaxation in simple pleasures. Spending time with family, exploring new places, and occasionally indulging in a good book or a quiet walk help her recharge. These moments of relaxation are crucial, providing the balance needed to sustain her creativity and drive.
