The launch of the inaugural Nelson Mandela Bay rugby 10’s tournament.

The region continues to produce world class talent in all formats of the game.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Rugby 10’s and its implementation partners officially launched the inaugural Nelson Mandela Bay Rugby 10’s Tournament on 23 August 2023 at Daniel Pienaar Hoer Tegniese Skool in Kariega (Uitenhage) Eastern Cape.

The launch marked the 100 days countdown to the kickoff of the much-anticipated tournament. Eastern Cape is regarded as the home of legends and the mecca of Rugby, rightly so, as the region continues to produce world class talent in all formats of the game through its school and amateur ranks.

A well-attended event saw the venue packed to its capacity. Attendees included among others club executives, players, coaches, Sponsors, local business and EPRU executives.

The ultimate vision of the tournament has 3 pillar namely:

  • Deliver an event that has a national interest, to create a platform for players to showcase their talent
  • Create the ultimate fan fest experience, by providing entertainment for the whole family.
  • Create and stimulate the sports tourism economy ensuring sustainable business opportunity for local business in the region.

The objective of the 2023 additions taking place (01-03 December 2023 at Daniel Pienaar Technical high school is to have:

  • 20 Semi Pro Male teams participating for the prize money of R50,000
  • 10 Semi Pro Female teams participating for the prize money of R10,000
  • 10 Under 18 School teams participating for the prize money of R20,000
  • 10 Legends over 35 teams participating for prize money of R10,000

Phase 1 tickets was released on 15 September 2023 and details are as follows:

  • A weekend pass for R100, it includes all 3 days
  • 3 prizes can be won during phase 1
  • Phase 1 runs from 15 September to 31 October 2023
