After three years of preparing a documentary that will show a different side of Siya Kolisi the public will finally be served. Siya currently serves as captain of both the Cell C Sharks and the South African national team. Kolisi was chosen as the Springboks’ captain in 2018, making history as the team’s first black captain.

About more than a thousand individuals in Kolisi’s hometown will be able to watch Rise: The Siya Kolisi narrative this Saturday, January 28, one whole month before it airs on DStv. This is Kolisi’s way of paying tribute to all who were involved in his incredible story.

Siya Kolisi, a world-class rugby player, agreed to have his life made into a film on the condition that the first screening take place in Zwide, the Eastern Cape township where he grew up.

It details Kolisi’s upbringing and charts his development from an orphan to the captain of the Springboks and one of the most significant athletes in history.

The Siya Kolisi narrative will certainly make it’s world premiere this weekend and leave a footprint.

It’s another triumph in Kolisi’s incredible story; his dream, which he originally conceived in the confined house he grew up in – in the Eastern Cape, where his dreams began to take shape. Success has since followed, ultimately to the 2019 Rugby World Cup victory, while also returning to the place where it all started and giving back.

Kolisi wanted to show that his tale is the story of the community, which was the purpose of his request.

He has always maintained that he is not a self-made man and that people who have given him resources, opportunity, support, and care since he was a child are responsible for his tale and his triumphs.

Additionally, admission to the screening at Isaac Booi Senior Primary School in Zwide is free, and Siya will be present for a pre-screening Q&A session.

Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story’s earnings will be donated to the neighborhood and other deserving initiatives backed by the Kolisi family.
