The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium events team is delighted to host this year’s Carling Champions Match, brought to you by M – Sports Marketing Communications and Carling Black label. The stadium management confirmed that the ticket sales has increased this week and expecting about 15000 fans to attend the game this weekend.
Wednesday, 29th at the NMB Stadium the media was invited to engage with all stakeholders involved in bringing this highly anticipated match to the city. Amongst the stakeholders it was the Tourism department representatives who has welcomed both the Italians and the Mzansi sportsmen to the city when they arrived, priding themselves by being able to welcome the visitors in style through cultural music and planning to take the visitors to a city tour that will lead to Addo Elephant Park and a few historical sites in the metro.
This year’s local team is led by Jimmy Stonehouse, Airlink Pumas coach - that has recently won the Carling Currie Cup for the first time in history. After a question posed to him about how he feels to coach a team that is mix of different players Jimmy confidently responded by saying, “Interesting, but like the national team I can handle different players”. The team coached by Jimmy this weekend will play Italia ‘A’, and it is made up of Carling Currie Cup players from all over the country, voted by their fans to be part of the team - the voting choice for fans favorite player to be on the squad was the initiative started by Carling Black Label in 2021. The local will be playing Italia Emergenti, a team full of youngsters and some of them are in South Africa for the first time.
Prior the actual game that will kick-off at 19h45 the fan park will be open from 14h00 Saturday the 2nd of July, fans will be able to watch the Springbok game at 17h00. There will be live entertainment from Heavy K, NaakMusiq, Michelle Mattheus and other local artists to keep the crowd entertained.
The game will be broadcasted live on radio by the following broadcasting stations: Umhlobo Wenene, Ukhozi Fm, Lesedi Fm, Radio 2000 and RSG.
