Gqeberha, Eastern Cape - Starting a new business can be a challenging endeavor, especially when it comes to building a reputation and gaining customers' trust. The Konvenient Magazine and Mantis No.5 Boutique Hotel hosted a product experience event, aimed at showcasing the work of SMEs and giving the audience a chance to rate and review their products on social media. The event, which took place at Mantis No5 Summerstrand Gqeberha, had a panel discussion that was moderated by Estelle Ellis from the Daily Maverick, who was impressed with the brands and their stories.
One of the brands featured at the event was Xarra Wear, which is co-owned by Sonwabo Godfrey Jacobs from Colchester. Jacobs spoke about their unique socks and patterns that are inspired by the rich history and values of the Khoi people, and how he is thrilled to be discovering more knowledge about the Khoi nation as they gradually building the brand. Another brand showcased was NG Goniwe, which produces stylish leather shoes, bags, and belts. Ncedisa Goniwe, the owner, shared about how his brand has grown from producing one shoe design to having variety of shoe designs and the collaborations they have with influencers to create brand awareness.
The Konvenient Magazine highlighted to the audience how the ability to leave ratings and reviews has become easier than ever, thanks to the development of digital technology. "By utilizing the tech tools the right way, we are all assisting SMEs to build credibility and establish a positive online presence. Also, this helps on building trust with consumers and attracting new clients in the future".
The audience was encouraged and motivated by the entrepreneurs and their stories, with many suggesting that there should be more events like this to celebrate and support local businesses. Attendees were also asked to follow the brands on social media and give reviews on the spot, which resulted in an increase in the brands' followings and reviews.
Altogether, the event was a success, highlighting the importance of supporting and promoting local SMEs. It also emphasized the value of creating a community that celebrates and motivates each other, something that is much needed in the current economic climate.
