Recently, we had the pleasure of conducting an insightful interview with Karabo Nxiweni, the visionary founder of Essentialle. Hailing from Pretoria, South Africa, and currently based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, Nxiweni shared her thoughts on the significance of multiple income streams and the challenges and rewards of managing diverse ventures after we asked her to touch on that topic before we talk Essentialle.

Nxiweni emphasized the contemporary necessity of cultivating multiple income streams, asserting that the unpredictability of economic conditions, notably exemplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores the vulnerability of relying solely on a singular source of income. She aptly remarked, "Diversifying your income streams not only provides financial stability but also opens up opportunities for growth and resilience in the face of challenges."

She candidly discussed the dual nature of handling multiple businesses – a venture that can be both rewarding and challenging. Nxiweni pointed out the balance required in terms of time management, delegation, and prioritization to ensure each venture thrives. "It's a balancing act that requires dedication, adaptability, and a strong support system," she noted.

Nxiweni shared the genesis of Essentialle, which originated in 2014 as Adesin Creations, initially focusing on events management and makeup services. However, the challenges posed by the lockdown compelled a pivot into e-commerce and beauty, leading to the rebranding of the company as Essentialle. The brand now encompasses three divisions: Events, Beauty, and an innovative online store catering to stylish and adventurous individuals.

Reflecting on the most challenging aspects of juggling multiple businesses, Nxiweni highlighted the need to ensure each venture receives the attention it deserves, coupled with effective time management. Despite the hurdles, she emphasized that strategic planning, delegation, and perseverance have enabled Essentialle to overcome obstacles and continue its upward trajectory.

As a female entrepreneur, we were keen to hear about the challenges she has faced and if the opportunities for her are as equal as men in the entrepreneurship space. This is what she said, “As a woman entrepreneur, I have faced my fair share of challenges, including gender biases and stereotypes. However, I firmly believe that opportunities exist for those who are determined and resilient, regardless of gender. While there may be systemic barriers to overcome, I have found that my passion, drive, and commitment to excellence have enabled me to succeed in a male-preferred industry. It's essential to advocate for gender equality and create a supportive environment where all entrepreneurs can thrive.”

Before we wrapped it up, she shared her business highlights, expressing immense satisfaction in witnessing the growth and success of Essentialle. From its humble beginnings as Adesin Creations to its current status as a multifaceted brand, each milestone achieved serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team.

In closing, Nxiweni offered valuable advice to aspiring young female entrepreneurs, encouraging them to pack determination, resilience, and passion into their business journeys. She emphasized the importance of upskilling, thorough research, self-belief, and the courage to take risks. Surrounding oneself with mentors and supportive networks, seeking learning opportunities, and embracing the power of perseverance were highlighted as crucial components for success.

And now we may all agree that her journey exemplifies resilience, innovation, and a commitment to excellence, making her an inspiring figure for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially young women, seeking to carve their paths in the business world.
