Amandla Management Services (Pty) Ltd in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Standard Bank, Umhlobo WeneneFM, SABC, Mandela Development Agency, SAMPRA, Coega Development Corporation, Sunrise Hotel & Southern Sun Hotels are proud to announce the Annual IsiXhosa Music Festival, a celebration of South Africa's second most spoken indigenous language.
The festival was conceived by Mr Mazizi Msutu, Managing Director at Amandla Management Services, with the aim of promoting, preserving and developing the heritage, language, culture and traditions of IsiXhosa. The festival features almost 20 artists, all isiXhosa speaking, dressed in traditional IsiXhosa attire and singing in IsiXhosa.
IsiXhosa is the most widely distributed African language in South Africa and is very popular in the entertainment industry, having featured in movies such as Black Panther and The Lion King, as well as in music such as Kendrick Lamar's multi-platinum album, To Pimp A Butterfly.
The festival will not only feature music, but will also provide opportunities to explore IsiXhosa culture through food, attire, accessories, and souvenir stalls. The festival also has an educational component and a CSI event. A workshop facilitated by Ringo Madlingozi will be held on the 21st of April 2023 at the Sunrise Hotel in Bluewater Bay.
"We are excited to bring the Annual IsiXhosa Music Festival back after the COVID-19 stoppage," said Mr Msutu. "With the support of our corporate and public sector sponsors, we are confident that the festival will grow from strength to strength."
The festival aims to commemorate the Heritage, Traditions, Customs and the indigenous Language of Isi-Xhosa and to foster a sense of pride, confidence and trust in Isi-Xhosa heritage, culture and history. The festival will be a complete IsiXhosa experience, from the attire worn by artists and partygoers, to the food served on the day, and the display of accessories.
On the question about ticket sales so far, here's what the team had to say about it: "We are a bit surprised by how well our audience have received it so far, the ticket sales are going great so far. Also, we would like to receive more interaction from other cultures in South Africa to be a part of this wonderful initiative."
The Annual IsiXhosa Music Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of IsiXhosa culture and heritage, and is an event not to be missed.
