South African design duo, House of Decorum, embarked on an exciting cultural journey this week as they visited the prestigious Accademia Del Lusso School of Fashion and Design in Milan. The visit comes just ahead of their highly anticipated studio showcase during Milan Fashion Week 2024. This visit is more than just a professional engagement; it marks the beginning of a series of collaborations between South African designers and European fashion institutions, aimed at sharing and celebrating South African culture, heritage, and diversity on a global stage.
Upon their arrival, the duo was warmly welcomed by Kseniia, the design school’s manager, who guided them through insightful discussions about the variety of courses offered to students. They explored everything from pattern-making techniques to the school’s illustrious history, which has shaped some of the world’s top fashion designers. Reflecting on the experience, Mphahlela Mokgatle, known as Mr. Decorum, shared, “This is a great opportunity for us to teach the world about our patterns as South Africans and the rich heritage behind our garments.”
One of the key goals of their visit is to foster intercultural exchange, connecting with the school's fashion students and sharing insights into their own design philosophies. The couple also toured the school’s luxury lab, located on Via Privata Chioggia-2, further cementing their commitment to blending South African artistry with global fashion influences.
For nearly a decade, House of Decorum has been importing premium Drago fabric from Italy, which they use to craft luxury bespoke suits for men and women. Their Johannesburg-based fashion warehouse distributes this high-quality fabric across South Africa, catering to discerning clients who appreciate custom-tailored elegance.
As Milan Fashion Week approaches, anticipation is building for House of Decorum’s latest collection, “I'dlozi Lethu: The Modern Dandy Capsule.” Described as a bold fusion of traditional tailoring with avant-garde elements, the collection promises to redefine modern dandy aesthetics with its unique blend of classic elegance and contemporary flair. “Join us for a spectacular showcase where classic elegance meets contemporary flair,” Mokgatle urged fashion enthusiasts.
