A young businessman in the bustling seaside city of Gqeberha is creating a sensation rather than merely a stir. Introducing Thando Volontiya, the creative force behind GQ Creamery - “Bathi Simnandi”, a company that aims to provide an experience that satisfies the senses and tantalizes the taste buds in addition to selling ice cream.

Hailing from the picturesque town of Knysna and now residing in the heart of Cotswold, Gqeberha, Thando embodies the spirit of innovation and relentless pursuit of excellence. When asked about his passion for entrepreneurship, his eyes light up with a fervor that's contagious. "I've always loved business since forever," he muses, "I love the challenge and rewards it brings. Business has that exciting magnet that keeps you wanting more, even if you fail; you just want to get up and try again."

In 2022, Thando embarked on a journey to revolutionize the ice cream industry, recognizing a need for something different, something that would not only captivate people's eyes but also satisfy their cravings. "Ice cream has the potential to be bigger than the coffee business soon," he asserts confidently. And so, GQ Creamery was born.

From the outset, Thando understood the power of presentation and the importance of garnering public support. With the unwavering backing of the people of Gqeberha, his business began to gain traction. Strategic collaborations, such as partnering with Gqeberha’s Very Own, catapulted GQ Creamery into the limelight, earning it coveted exposure on television and enhancing its credibility.

However, Thando's journey was not without its challenges. Being situated far from major transportation hubs posed logistical hurdles, particularly when it came to the timely delivery of ice cream, which tends to melt all too quickly. Ever the resourceful entrepreneur, Thando pivoted his approach, opting to set up shop in more accessible locations, such as major events at the NMB Stadium and popular hangouts like Black Impala Tshisanyama in Deal Party. By bringing his delectable treats directly to the people, he ensured that indulging in GQ Creamery's offerings was as convenient as it was irresistible.

Despite the obstacles, Thando's perseverance paid off, culminating in a defining moment: being featured on Channel 161's Indaba Zethu for a live interview about his burgeoning business. Buoyed by this success Thando set his sights on expanding his reach to new territories within Gqeberha, including the bustling neighborhood of Motherwell and beyond. Moreover, recognizing the demand for his delectable creations at special events, he made GQ Creamery available for bookings at corporate functions and private gatherings, delighting guests with his culinary expertise.

At the heart of GQ Creamery's success lies its signature offering: Umgowo, a divine concoction of fresh blueberries and cheesecake flavour that has captured the hearts—and palates—of creamers far and wide. It's no wonder that this tantalizing treat flies off the shelves faster than it can be churned.

But amidst the whirlwind of entrepreneurship, Thando remains grounded, cherishing precious moments spent with his family and children during his rare moments of respite. For him, these interludes serve as a reminder of what truly matters amidst the hustle and bustle of business.

As GQ Creamery continues to carve a niche for itself in the competitive landscape of Gqeberha's culinary scene, one thing is abundantly clear: Thando Volontiya's passion for innovation and dedication to quality are the secret ingredients that set his venture apart. With each scoop of ice cream savoured and each smile elicited, GQ Creamery is not just selling a product—it's selling an experience, one that leaves a lasting impression on all who have the pleasure of indulging in its sweet delights.
