Ashe Wines' founders, Moji and Khomotso, set out on a mission to connect their hometown's metropolitan vibrancy with the enduring charm of the Western Cape's vineyards, all while nestled in the bright and bustling centre of Johannesburg. Their home in Johannesburg provides a distinctive fusion of city and vineyard life, which greatly impacts their winemaking process, and they frequently go to the Western Cape for business.

Moji and Khomotso’s love for winemaking began through a deep appreciation of various wines and their origins, and friendships within the wine industry. Reflecting on their journey, Moji shares, "I did business in the industry as a supplier of financial services and equipment to the Wine Industry between 2005 and 2010. Beyerskloof (Beyers Truter) was one of our customers, and through networks, I got introduced to Domaine Brahms. The owners of Domaine Brahms have been our friends ever since." This pivotal connection ignited their passion, blending business acumen with a burgeoning love for viticulture.

Inspired by their friendships and a desire to honour their ancestry and family history, Moji and Khomotso established Ashe Wines. The name "Ashe" pays homage to Moji's father, a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in the SA Navy during WWII. The brand logo is a tribute to their heritage and Moji's father's legacy, who would have turned 100 this year. Ashe Wines celebrates traditional living and simple, meaningful production methods, deeply rooted in the history and practices of Domaine Brahms.

What sets Ashe Wines apart is their commitment to sustainable farming and minimal chemical use. Their philosophy is inspired by old-style living and effective, simple equipment. The Paarl-origin wines maintain a balanced ecosystem, reflecting the founders' dedication to natural practices. The meticulous winemaking process begins with the careful handpicking of grapes at the peak of ripeness, ensuring only the finest fruit is selected. After harvesting, the grapes undergo gentle crushing and pressing to extract the precious juice, known as "must." This liquid undergoes fermentation, transforming sugars into alcohol, primarily in stainless steel tanks for a crisp finish. The aging process, whether in stainless steel or oak barrels, nurtures the distinctive character and complexity of the wines. Each bottle encapsulates the essence of their journey from vine to glass, promising a sublime experience with every pour.

Despite facing market competition and environmental challenges, Ashe Wines has persevered by focusing on quality, innovation, and sustainable practices. Their dedication has not only ensured the quality and consistency of their wines but has also carved a niche in a competitive market. Looking ahead, Ashe Wines aims to expand their product line and explore new winemaking techniques. With upcoming releases and projects on the horizon, Moji and Khomotso are poised to continue their journey of crafting exceptional wines that honour their heritage and passion.

In Khomotso's words, "Our vision for Ashe Wines is not just about producing wine; it's about telling a story with every bottle, a story that celebrates our roots, our journey, and our commitment to excellence." This vision is the heart of Ashe Wines, where tradition meets innovation, and every sip tells a story of dedication and passion.
