The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Event Awards (NMBBEA) aim to showcase the depth and professionalism of suppliers to organizations who wish to host their business events in our city. Business events include conferences, seminars, tradeshows and expos.

More than 200 nominations were received this year, representing a diverse and inspiring group of local businesses and entrepreneurs.

The selection process is rigorous. After nominations closed in July, nominees had to submit a portfolio and references to proceed to the next level. These portfolios went through a first round of judging, at which 3 finalists were chosen for each category.

Finalists then took part in radio interviews, a videoed Q&A session, and then the final judging round in front of a panel of judges. These judges are selected each year from the local events industry and are complemented by the NMBBEA team and an independent auditor.

Judging took place this week at the Boardwalk Hotel, and the winners’ names have been sealed in envelopes. These will remain in the possession of the auditor and be opened on stage at the Gala Awards Dinner on 1 November 2022.

The organizing committee noted a wonderful camaraderie between the finalists, and a great deal of “networking” happening before and after the interviews. Nelson Mandela Bay can be proud of the depth of expertise of their event industry suppliers, as well as the spirit of collaboration that is apparent. Extensive social media coverage of the awards process aims to highlight this to the rest of South Africa, in an effort to bring more events here, and to have them use local suppliers to make these events a success.

Bookings are now open for the gala dinner and award ceremony, where the 2022 winners will be revealed.
