This past weekend, Boardwalk Casino played host to a colourful spectacle as they celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, considered to be a symbol of strength, energy and vitality.

The honouree guests, which included Larry Pow Chong, Chairman of Chinese Community, were dazzled by the dragon dance performed by the Shun Wu Tang Martial Arts Academy.

Set against a backdrop of beating drums and clashing cymbals, the dragon dance serves as an effective deterrent against evil spirits and a harbinger of good fortune.

Most Valued Guest (MVG) members received a gift on arrival at Kipling’s Brasserie before being greeted by a traditional dragon dance and dining on Chinese cuisine. Closing off a lively evening, eight guests walked away with prizes totalling R24,000 in a lucky draw.

In addition to the dragon dance performed by the academy, guests were also treated to a live music duet.

“Every year, we pull out all the stops for our Chinese community to see in the New Year and to create lasting memories together,” says Boardwalk General Manager, Tsunke Tati. “We wish all our guests celebrating the Chinese New Year happiness and prosperity.”

“The merrymaking at Boardwalk welcomed in a new lunar year, but was also an opportunity to honour and sustain the wonderful relationship between Sun International and the Chinese community,” Tati said.
