No more coming to school barefoot for Zwide learners, after Boardwalk Hotel and Casino handed over 60 pairs of shoes to those in need at two schools.
Delighted learners at Khwezi Lomso Comprehensive School and Garret Primary school received their shoes at a handover in the presence of the Eastern Cape Member of Mayoral Committe for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Mcebisi Bass Kamana, as well as representatives from Hope for Kids.
“We were approached by an NGO called Hope for Kids to assist with sponsorship, and because education is Sun International’s main socio-economic development focus area, we knew we had to assist,” said Boardwalk Hotel and Casino General Manager, Tati Tsunke. “Some of these children were arriving at school barefoot as they cannot even afford the basic uniform.”
Names and shoe sizes of 30 under-privileged learners from each school were provided to Boardwalk, who conducted the handover on February 28.
